At PALFINGER, we believe in more than just providing exceptional products and services. We believe in the individuals who shape and contribute to our success. Faces of PALFINGER MARINE is a blog series highlighting the diverse talents and perspectives of our colleagues across roles and locations. For the latest edition, we met up with Nitin Joseph, Sales Manager Canada, to find out what drives our sales – and a salesman.

NITIN’S UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Nitin’s journey with PALFINGER began in an unexpected manner. While working at a shipyard in the Middle East, where we were one of the major partners for lifesaving equipment (LSA) services, Nitin decided to relocate to Canada. Even though the industry is global in nature, it is sufficiently close knit for news to travel fast.

Once PALFINGER MARINE’s management learned about my plans, they reached out to me directly and offered me the Sales Manager position in Canada.

ON THE ROAD IN CANADA AND THE US

In his role based in Langley, British Columbia, Nitin is responsible for LSA sales across Canada. He also provides support to a number of clients located in the western United States. His job involves frequent client visits to better understand their needs, strengthen relationships, and expand our sprawling sales network. In doing so, he certainly racks up some miles. “Because Canada is so vast, travel is a big part of my job. I’m mostly on the go in spring, summer, and fall, as winter weather often disrupts flights,” he explains.

“MY ROLE IS DYNAMIC, PROACTIVE, AND ADAPTABLE”

A typical workday for Nitin is dynamic and varied. “No two days are alike. When I’m in the office, I usually start very early to connect with my European colleagues as their workday comes to an end. The rest of my day is spent in client meetings, calls, or preparing proposals based on discussions with both clients and our European teams,” he shares. When traveling, his day starts with clearing urgent emails before heading to client meetings, while evenings often involve client dinners or industry events. Not a single day on the road passes without Nitin checking in with his family, though.

Nitin’s primary market is Canada, where he oversees sales of LSA as part of a team currently consisting of six full-time employees and four service engineers. His key customers include major shipyards, ferry companies, the Canadian Coast Guard, and the Canadian Navy. “Every large vessel at sea requires some form of LSA, and we are a highly sought after partner with an excellent track record. On top of that, we also support other marine operators along the coasts as needed,” he notes.

THE SEASPAN PROJECT AS A PERSONAL MILESTONE

When asked to share the most memorable project Nitin has worked on, he instantly recalls the Seaspan project, where PALFINGER MARINE is supplying modern lifeboats and davits for six new Canadian Coast Guard multi-purpose vessel (MPV) vessels. “It required close collaboration across multiple departments, from design, project management, and sales to legal and contract management; all with strong guidance from senior leadership. It was a complex process but closing the deal was a very rewarding moment,” he recalls with pride.

FACING CHALLENGES TOGETHER

What Nitin finds most fulfilling about working at PALFINGER MARINE is the company’s inherently human approach. “They show genuine empathy toward employees, which creates a sense of warmth and security. No matter the challenge, you always know someone has your back,” he says. This is particularly important in an industry as fast paced as ours. “Every journey has its challenges,” Nitin muses. “Growth through mergers has required difficult technical and organizational integration processes. But that’s where our resilient approach to teamwork comes into play; we’ve always emerged stronger!”

FORGING A PATH INTO A PROMISING FUTURE

Looking ahead, Nitin is excited about the future of the North American marine and shipbuilding industry. “Navigating its challenges and tapping into its potential gives me a real adrenaline rush. I’m excited about what’s to come,” he smiles. “This field is so dynamic and challenging. With 15 years of experience under my belt, I’ve long learned that the LSA business demands attention to detail in all aspects. Even though it’s driven by products and technology, the pricing remains equally important. I firmly believe that PALFINGER MARINE is excellently placed to realize our potential on all levels. Credibility is everything, and we have loads of it,” Nitin says.

“I’D DESCRIBE MYSELF AS PASSIONATE, ENERGETIC, AND CHARISMATIC”

Given his professional track record and current role, it comes as no surprise that Nitin enjoys traveling – not least after having lived in many different parts of the world. It also goes without saying that his natural charisma is a vital asset within his skill set. But who is our sales expert when he isn’t in work mode? “I really enjoy the gym and love biking. You’ll also find me in my kitchen experimenting with new recipes,” he smiles and adds: “I really value my work-life balance – it’s such an important aspect in both worlds.” Finally, as any Canadian will tell you, the country’s natural beauty lures you outside. “My family and I spend most weekends outdoors – hiking, biking, or simply camping and relaxing by the riverside. There’s no better way to recharge,” Nitin insists.
