At PALFINGER, we believe in more than just providing exceptional products and services. We believe in the individuals who shape and contribute to our success. Faces of PALFINGER MARINE is a new blog series highlighting the diverse talents and perspectives of our colleagues across roles and locations. First up: Meet Princess Yuson, the Africa Middle East India (AMEI) Area Sales Manager for Fender Systems, based in Dubai.

THE IMPORTANCE OF DETERMINATION

Princess knows what she wants. After five years in a purchasing role within the maritime industry, she identified a personal and professional aspiration to transition to a more dynamic role in sales. To facilitate the necessary training, the now 36-year-old took a leap of faith by quitting her job to pursue her passion in sales, ready to embrace all challenges and opportunities ahead. After gaining valuable experiences in previous sales roles, she joined the PALFINGER MARINE family in November 2021. Based in Dubai, Princess is responsible for sales and business development of fender systems across the AMEI region. When asked where she sees the greatest market potential for fenders, Princess confidently states that it lies in the AMEI region based on yearly revenue. Her job entails guiding customers through the entire order process, always with the optimal solution in mind. In this capacity, Princess meets clients, discusses requirements, and addresses any issues they might have.

My job is customer-centric, proactive, and strategic. It allows me to meet with clients, discuss future projects, and travel. What more could you want?

She also travels throughout her region, informing clients about the solutions and services we offer. Customer acquisition in the fender business is driven by a proactive approach that includes in-person meetings, attending exhibitions and conferences, as well as e-mail communications.

A FEMALE ROLE MODEL WITHIN THE INDUSTRY

Princess loves the global appeal of the marine business. As diverse as the scope of job opportunities may be, however, it is difficult to argue against the perception that the maritime industry remains male-dominated. When asked about her experiences, she is swift to answer: “Breaking gender stereotypes and prejudices by demonstrating competence is important, but it is equally essential to mitigate their impact. I found guidance in mentors, allies, and support networks within the industry.” Today, she is the kind of sales expert who can convert a customer request turned down by a competitor into a successful account for us in less than 10 hours – including repeat orders. In a highly competitive environment like Dubai, delivering exceptional, impressive performances is paramount, and she delivers daily.

Princess is aware that she is a role model for other aspiring female professionals. To this end, she prioritizes her collaborative and empathetic skills. “I wish to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities,” she argues. She acknowledges the challenges, yet also insists that there are manifold opportunities for women to thrive and make significant contributions in traditionally male-dominated industries.

I am ambitious, self-motivated, and goal oriented.

These three adjectives, chosen by Princess herself, perfectly encompass why she is such a perfect fit. We aim to encourage exactly those traits in all our employees across the board in our pursuit for product and service excellence.
