Nor-Shipping in Oslo, Norway, is an event that the entire industry looks forward to. This year, the trade show, which typically attracts a staggering 600 exhibitors and more than 30,000 visitors, took place from the 6th to 9th of June 2023. PALFINGER MARINE was not only present with a booth of its own, but we identified the event as the perfect platform to introduce our new, state-of-the-art offshore passenger transfer system (OPTS) – including a showcase model. This is how it went.

Everyone has dates in their calendar that seem more special than others, be it a birthday, a holiday, or maybe even a sporting event. For the maritime industry, one of those dates is the bi-annual Nor-Shipping trade show in Oslo, Norway. The event, among the most important trade fairs of its kind in Europe, had everyone excitedly looking forward to meeting up and discussing the most important issues and developments of our industry this year, under the fitting motto #partnership.

Besides all the interesting conferences, enlightening summits, and spectacular parties, Nor-Shipping 2023 offered yet another highlight: the introduction of PALFINGER MARINE’s new, state-of-the-art offshore passenger transfer system (OPTS).

PALFINGER MARINE highlights its innovator status

The OPTS is a system that facilitates the safe and efficient transfer of passengers and cargo between a moving vessel and a static or semi-floating offshore structure. Our innovative solution is 3D compensated, meaning it is capable of absorbing waves and other motions on all axes for a smooth transfer.

The flexible nature of our new, cost-efficient OPTS allows it to be mounted on both smaller boats and service operation vessel (SOV). On the latter, a special winch means it operates as a 3D compensated crane. PALFINGER MARINE’s OPTS innovation is available as a mobile version that is the same size – and as easy to transport – as a 40-foot container and as a fixed version that is permanently mounted on a vessel. In short, it is the perfect tool for service operations and de-commissioning work offshore. Gunther Fleck, Vice President Sales & Service Region Marine, is understandably proud of our latest development:

This system sets a new milestone in the energy transition process, demonstrating our capabilities as an innovator and complete solutions provider.

PALFINGER MARINE attracts attention

The showcase model of the new OPTS attracted a great deal of interest and traffic to our Nor-Shipping booth. Our team on-location was eager to explain the development process, which is based on a system that was acquired in 2021. Sverre Mowinckel-Nilsen, Head of Global Marine Sales Solution Management, explains: “This latest PALFINGER MARINE complete solution defines new standards in terms of accuracy, multifunctionality, and safety. We cannot imagine a better place to introduce this innovation than Nor-Shipping.” While customer and partners milled around our trade show stand to catch a first glimpse of the new OPTS, our developers were working intensively on an improved design featuring enhanced functions. The actual prototype is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of next year.

The place to be for PALFINGER MARINE

To underline the importance of our presence at Nor-Shipping, we met up with Gunther to hear his thoughts on the event, and, on top, collected some impressions of our successful days at Nor-Shipping:

All in all, it is safe to say that PALFINGER MARINE’s presence at Nor-Shipping was a resounding success once again – not only because of the presentation of our own technology, but also because we gained invaluable insights into the status of the industry as a whole. The trade show is, after all, the hotspot for global key decision makers in the maritime field. It is the perfect arena for exchanging ideas with customers and partners, allowing us to provide future-focused concepts together. As Gunther explains in the video posted above: “This is the place to be. This is where we shape the future together with our customers.” We could not agree more.

In closing, we would like to thank all suppliers, customers, partners, and employees who made PALFINGER MARINE’s Nor-Shipping attendance such a successful venture. We are already looking forward to continuing our rewarding exchange at upcoming events. And, of course, we’ll be sharing our experiences with you here. See you soon!
