PALFINGER MARINE’s new PFM 2100 crane has reached a significant milestone, as the very first unit successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at our production site in Maribor, Slovenia. The flagship crane is now on its way to Norway.

THE NEXT LEVEL IN OUTREACH AND LOAD CAPACITY

The PFM 2100 is the first PALFINGER MARINE crane to feature the patented P-profile extension boom system. This all-new heavy duty foldable knuckle boom crane, with over 29-meter maximum outreach and a comparatively high load capacity at these high outreaches, sets a new benchmark for performance. Thanks to the high-end oil flow control valve, crane movements are swifter, smoother, and more precise. In addition, several design refinements have been made to better align with modern ship designs.

While recent blog posts have highlighted the extensive development and testing procedures of the prototype, we are now entering the final stage: the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the PFM 2100 and its delivery to the end customer.

BUILDING SUCCESS TOGETHER

Bergen Hydraulic, our longstanding and trusted Norwegian partner, sold the new PFM 2100 alongside the PK 150002 M to Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice (FDA). FDA is a renowned Norwegian maritime contractor that provides services to the aquaculture industry, contractors, and the public sector. Their fleet is already equipped with several PALFINGER MARINE cranes, including the industry’s only PFM 4500. The PFM 2100 and the PK 150002 M will be used for lifting operations aboard the new vessel Niklas, which is currently under construction at the Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted (FMV) yard in Norway.

During the design and development phase, there was a close collaboration between PALFINGER MARINE and Bergen Hydraulic. Given this strong partnership, the Bergen Hydraulic team traveled to Maribor, Slovenia, to witness the Factory Acceptance Test firsthand. The FAT lasted approximately five hours, during the crane underwent a comprehensive testing protocol, including functional and overload tests, among others. Since extensive functional tests and a lifetime endurance test have already been performed on the prototype, it is no surprise that the first serial crane successfully passed the FAT, demonstrating its exceptional performance.

Arnt-Ove Skoge, Sales Manager at Bergen Hydraulic, was more than satisfied with what he saw:

It was great to see the new crane finally in action. Our team thoroughly examined every detail, and everything was flawless.

And there’s more to come: “We are proud to reveal that FDA has already ordered another set of these cranes for its new vessel Emilie. The designated PFM is currently being produced assembled in Maribor, Slovenia”, says Bernd Huemer, Global Sales Manager at PALFINGER MARINE.

AN IMPRESSIVE TIMEFRAME

The PFM 2100 for the vessel Niklas is already on its way to Norway, with commissioning scheduled for March. “It’s quite an impressive time frame, especially considering that no more than five months have passed since the official market launch at the SMM in September 2024 and the first crane delivery,” Bernd points out.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The PFM 2100 will soon have a little sibling. Together with the PFM 2100, this new family member will make the perfect pair for service vessels and many other applications. We are currently in the design phase, and more details will be announced soon.

We can’t wait to see the all-new PFM 2100 in real-life. So, stay tuned for more updates! You will have the chance to see our cranes aboard vessel Emilie showcased at Aqua-Nor in Trondheim, from August 19-21, 2025
